With graduate assistant Liz McGlynn Bellamy, I created a lesson planning template merging the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy with Wiggins and McTighe’s Understanding by Design methodology. This approach enhanced the quality and consistency of information literacy instruction at UNC Libraries.
What the Template Does
The template empowers instructors to:
- Deconstruct research assignments to identify required skills and knowledge
- Align learning objectives with information literacy threshold concepts
- Emphasize the “Big Idea” in lesson focus
- Develop authentic activities demonstrating student learning
- Create detailed learning plans addressing assignment-specific challenges
